Friday shoot out: Wrought Iron

So here is an idea of this weeks theme...

Wrought iron is an iron alloy with a very low carbon content, in comparison to steel, and has fibrous inclusions, known as slag. This is what gives it a "grain" resembling wood, which is visible when it is etched or bent to the point of failure. Wrought iron is tough, malleable, ductile and easily welded. Historically, it was known as "commercially pure iron", but now what we know as 'Wrought Iron' is fabricated.

Yard objects, fences, Old World Historic Iron- mostly found on Victorian Period Architecture or earlier...you guys get so creative, so have fun!

I didn't find many wrought iron things apart from gates. My parents' house has a wrought iron balustrade of spiral metal strips. Cleaning and repainting was hard.

    Those gates are so beautiful! as you know,most flats here have gate and window grills made from wrought iron. I wanted to take those beautiful ones on landed property but dare not , in case they think I'm doing something illegal. So I settled with my neighbor's gate.

    I prefer the zoo than the Bird park and bought their membership when the kids were much younger. It became their playground and we went almost weekly, it's quiet near our place. Nowadays I ask my son to borrow his workplace's corporate membership , once every 3 months.Still is our favorite place to visit.

    Wonderful shots and as usual, I really do like your style of tilting the horizon a bit. It works for me although at first I wonder if I'm sitting lopsided. In fact, I thought of you when I was fiddling with one of my shots.

    Hi Ann, your photography is very good. You are right all I could find were fences and gates. I didn't get my pictures in til late but I am okay. The narration is great too. I am learning so much.

    I loved the gate with the circles embedded for decoration, Ann. Like you I was mostly only able to find wrought iron in fences.

    a really true wrought iron needs no repainting ,isn't it? and if you hit it or bang it,the metal's echo sound is long.

    I like these decorative gates. They're functional at keeping the dog in, without hiding your house behind a wall!

    So I didn't notice the tilting so much until Mark pointed it out. It begs the question, do you do this on purpose? for effect? As an artist you probably shouldn't answer that! The white iron is very striking! Beautiful.

    Hi all, Hi B & B and Mark,

    I wasn't doing it deliberately. Like Jama's comment, I was worried the house owner would come out and ask me what I was doing taking photos of his/her house. So I went at an angle so hopefully he won't see me. Also in other photos, I was in my car making myself as inconspicuous. The photo of the house with the stairs and balcony, I was stalking the owner for a long time. He kept going up and down the stairs. I thought he would never go into the house.

    I live in a place with barely fences only iron on old homes, this is a historic place, but I still love to discover it when I am out and about!
