In New Zealand, you hear of a rāhui in two context.
In Māori culture, a rāhui is a form of tapu restricting access to, or use of, an area or resource by unauthorised persons[1]. With the passing of the 1996 Fisheries Act, a rāhui can also be imposed by the New Zealand Ministry of Fisheries[2
I am talking about the second context. When the Department of fisheries deems a beach to be depleting of shell fish, a rāhui is imposed. This allows the shell fish to be replenished. If this is not done, over harvesting will lead to the death of the beach. There will be no more shell fish for the future generation.
Don't you think that a rāhui is a great idea?
It gives some time for nature to rejuvenate itself...good to implement this rahui

ReplyDeletesounds very promising.it's like replanting mangrove trees along the shore.there are such project undertaken by the Malaysian g'vnt .especially shore lines where a lot of full grown mangrove trees are chopped down for making charcoal.
