Outdoor Wednesday: Looking at Mother Hen

My nephews from Australia visited Sarawak and saw a mother hen sitting on her eggs. I don't think the hen was very happy with these kids.

When I was young, mum kept chickens like this, free range you call these days. The hen sat on the eggs for one month. Mum would not let us visit the hen. She said the hen would reject her eggs. So we obediently listened to her and waited patiently for the little cute fluffy chicks to hatch.

    Some mother hen quite aggresive when they are incubating the eggs...LOL

    PS : Haven' tried cooking beef tendon. My wife doesn't take beef.

    Hens are very protective...I suppose their adrenalin could be circulating at high speed!

    I get flustered when people (big or small) came to intimidate my Half Foochow children....

    I agree hens are very protective. We used to have hens back in the Philippines and my father won't allow us to get closer to the nest.

    I also remember my grandma telling me not to touch the newly laid eggs, otherwise the fingers will shiver when holding a pen to write. Also, mother hens are extremely fierce and protective of their brood.

    The last time we got as close was when my hubby took the kids to a commercial chicken farm in Singapore. Suffice to say there were some nose wrinkling, vomiting, and "Never again!" Oh well, kids these days...

    My family never rear any chicken, but some of my neighbour did. I really can't stand the smell of their dropping!
