These three Maori poles greet tourists at Achilles Point at St Heliers. A Pou or totem which has been carved with a variety of different faces symbolizing gods.
Achilles Point commemorates the 1939 battle of the River Plate where the New Zealand crewed Achilles engaged with other allied vessels to defeat legendary German cruiser Graf Spee.
I love your Maori poles. I grew up in Seattle and there we have Totem Poles ... they are so wonderful and tell such stories. Thanks for sharing pictures of yours.
ReplyDeleteBy the way ... my composting is doing really well, even with freezing temperatures. On days that the temperature rises above freezing, I go out and give it a stir ... and have been so surprised to find that the veggie matter has decomposed. The dirt in my bins is dark and rich.

Like Seattle, here in many parts of Wisconsin, USA, there are many totems carved by the native Americans, each telling a story. Your Maori poles are intriguing as well. Thanks for the education.
