Outdoor Wednesday: Earthquake in Christchurch.

I came home to news that there is a serious earthquake in Christchurch. It is 6.3 earthquake, is shallower and nearer the centre of the city. The icon of Christchurch which survived the September was not so fortunate this time. The spire on the Christchurch Cathedral has collapsed.

There are reports of deaths. Around 150 people are trapped inside the 13-storey Forsyth Barr building on the corner of Armargh and Colombo streets.

I was in this photo with my sis in law in 1978. I don't think it will be salvaged. More than one hundred and ten years of history is gone.

    I heard about the earthquake this morning, it's such a sad news to start my day, hopefully not many casualties. The church is very beautiful, such a waste to just let it go, it has so much history behind it.

    Oh how sad, Ann... That cathedral is so gorgeous. It hurts me to think of it being damaged...

    Hi Ann, firstly that's a beautiful church and so sayang it's gone and cant be restored. Very sad. My prayers always to those in need.

    Is it just the spire? What about the rest of the church, is it alright?? No one was in it at the time? A coincidence, your secrrity word is anger!!!

    What a sad thing this is. We are hearing bits and pieces of information here in the states.
    I have lived near San Francisco all my life and earthquakes are common... but when the big ones happen, it's always a tragedy.
    I hope they find everyone and that the aftershocks settle down.
    What a shame the beautiful, old church collapsed.

    I do hope that all will be fine with those injured and those suffering from losses will be comforted.

    And I hope the Cathedral will be renovated ...so many people have taken photos with it including my siblings!!

    I saw it in the news and it is now even worse. What a terrible tragedy ! we are nothing against nature !
    I thought of you, but apparently you don't live there where the earthquake took place.
