Friday Shootout: Menus

Menus by Sara Williams

Sorry folks, I only have one photo. After being shouted at by a waitress in a restaurant, I realize the camera is not welcomed in most restaurants. Otherwise, they are dimly lit, and my little canon camera doesn't take good photos in the dark.

I almost forgot, this is a simple, no frills and nothing fancy menu I drafted and one that I am most proud of. Do click on the menu and see the wide variety of international food we hand made for sale. Some of the food were restaurant standard because we had 16 years of making them. Real wholesome home cooked and home baked food.

In Singapore, for sixteen years, my friends and I (a group of faculty wives and husbands) raised funds for the Deaf Children in Kenya. The school is Oyugi School for the Deaf in Kenya.

Here is a sample menu that showed our food. These are the regular items, we also have many items that were donated on that day.

We even did an eFoodsale when we had the SARS epidemic. I emailed to our customers and they placed their orders. We either delivered the food or they came to pick them up. We enjoyed our marketing exercise.

It was for a very good cause, but sadly after I left, the group decided not to continue.

There is nothing like wholesome homemade food, and menus that show caring for others.

I think they don't allow their menus being photographed, they are afraid somebody will imitate it. I remember I was in the Philippines for a vacation and I was in Chowking making an order and since I like Chowking and I am fresh from 18 hours plane ride I wanted to put it in my blog the first eating stop I've made. The manager stopped me from doing it and asked me why I took a photo. I told her I will put it in my blog (I don't know if she knew about blogging at that time), and I continue to tell her that it's a free advertisement anyway. But I ended up not writing a positive entry from what I experienced hehehe.
Now I am careful I asked first lol! Happy weekend!

Wow, what a great thing to be a part of. Your menu has lots of wonderful items and the price is incredible even if was five years ago. I think your post is wonderful.

That is one bland menu for Thai food! Living here, I get used to in-your-face colourful menus that are almost as overwhelming as the dishes themselves ;-)

I do miss my friends and relatives from Singapore, but food wise, there are plenty here in Bangkok to distract me and make me less homesick. If only I could find a place that makes decent Hokkien Mee around here... have a blessed weekend!

Nice nice nice....

I am amazed how diligent all of you were for 16 years...raising funds for the Kenyan children...That's really impressive. Some how when International Communities live together they seem to be more energized than others whosimply plod on in life...just a thought albeit bias or even unfounded.

My, that is one impressive menu, Ann. And cheap, too! A wonderful thing to do to help others.

Great effort. Wonderful cause. Bless your warm heart.

Some restaurants do have the 'no photography rule' , but if it's just taking photos of the meals ordered, they tend to close one eye.

The waitress was somewhat rude ey. Sometimes even the foods taste great, it's nothing to do with the great service.

The waitress shouted at you? Someone needs to be fired.
Interesting post...
