Friday Shootout: Fireworks.

Fire works hold a great fascination for the Malaysians, especially the boys, big and small. In the 1960s, they were banned during the Communist insurgence. Even now, it is not sold openly.

In the water engineer's home town, kids spend a lot of money lighting fire works and crackers. During the Lunar new year, instead of presents, we receive cash packages known as Hong Baos aka Ang Baos. Boys can't wait to get this and off they go to the shop they know is selling the fireworks.

Yup my son loves them too...I just like watching.
Our town is a resort town...so they offer a nice display each year. But as for us...we are poor as church mice LOL!! Just little poppers for us:)

I think firecrackers have a universal fascination for little boys. Me, I can skip them, except maybe for sparklers, which don't make much noise and throw off lots of pretty sparks.

I took a lot of hand held sparkler shots , taken during the recent hari raya and during a BBQ just last October at a beach in Desaru- at first I wanted to post them for this week's theme until the day before when I saw the short rainbow and the gorgeous sunset, I changed my mine!

Hi, Ann
Great pictures. I think this is the first year that I did not go see the fireworks. The ones near me were canceled this year for lack of funding.
