Hats is our theme for June 24, chosen by JarieLyn. I have not gotten a Member Voice on the theme and I am not sure what she means by Hats of Your Town. So ........ yoo hoo ......... JarieLyn .......... leave us a comment here so we know!! :-) If not, show us different hats you have seen while out and about in your town.

I also have not gotten around to seeing everyone's posts from last week's theme and I will get around to that asap. Summer, gotta love it! Such a short time here in Michigan so I am not at the computer so much.

Friday shootout: Fishing

I grew up In Borneo, my Rejang River is very big, and there were creeks, my maternal grand dad had fish ponds. I grew up fishing.

When I came to New Zealand, I taught English as a second language. One of my students was a Vietnamese boy. He tells me," Girls NOT allowed."

These photos almost confirms what he said.

Member Voice for June 17 - National Fishing Day suggested by Camella
Camella's Member Voice on National Fishing Day.

Okay, I admit it I did not do a lot of research when I viewed a web based calendar that said June 18 was Go Fishing Day. I knew that National Fishing and Boating week was in June, so I just assumed… so let’s start over and say our theme for the week ending June 17th is “Fishing and/or Boating” in honor of National Fishing and Boating Week.

I grew up fishing with my dad. Most weekends were spent at a creek or river in North Florida fishing for Bream but often we would head to the pier on the beach and fish for Red Fish and whatever else we could catch. Growing up on the Gulf of Mexico we had our pick of what to fish for and fish was a staple of our diet.

More than 39 million people fish each year in the United States according to The American Sportfishing Association. This is 33 times more than the average attendance at ALL Major League baseball parks combined!

National Fishing and Boating week always falls the first full week in June and coincides with most states free fishing days. It is sponsored by The (RBFF) Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation which is administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; the RBFF was founded following the passing of the Sportfishing and Boating Safety Act of 1998 which “required the Secretary of the Interior to implement a national outreach and communication plan to address participation issues associated with recreational fishing and boating, while ensuring public support for aquatic resource conservation.” http://www.rbff.org/page.cfm?pageID=7

Friday shootout: Spin - Drop - Rest,

http://mytownshootout.blogspot.com/

http://mytownmrlinky.blogspot.com/
2nd Scavenger Hunt - Spin ~ Drop ~ Rest - by J9
Our second FMTSO Scavenger Hunt for May 27, Spin - Drop - Rest, was suggested by J9.
In her words:

This is a scavenger hunt for images or items, or people or places in
your town that represent the actions of Spin, Drop, and Rest. Because
there really are no rules, you can pretty much interpret this however
you would like. Do you have a drop roller coaster in your town? How
about giving a new car a spin? What about rest? We know at least one
personality thinking of rest rooms (Bagman), but what do people in
your town do to rest? How about rain drops? Whirling Dervishes?
Spinning Laundry? Mattress Stores? Let's see what we can all come up
with, and have fun!

The rotary clothes dryer.

It has four sets of lines and is similar to an umbrella. A more sophisticated one has a winding mechanism which can make the lines higher or lower depending if you have items like sheets. When the wind blows, your laundry goes round and round like a merry-go-round.

In a recent high profile child abuse and murder case, the poor kid was hung up on the wire, and spun round and round. Wiremu Curtis, 19, and his brother Michael, 22, face life sentences for the murder of Nia Glassie.

This dryer is a common sight in Australia and New Zealand.

Member Voice for First FMTSO Scavenger Hunt! ~ Round - Square - Triangular ~
Our first FMTSO Scavenger Hunt for April 8th! When I posted this topic and asked for suggestions there was a lot of feedback. That is great! Monica made a suggestion for the guide lines that if you can find all three hunt words in one photo, add that as a fourth photo of the hunt. I think we should also expand the hunt area to include not just your town, but surrounding areas and the surrounding countryside.

if you check the little building you can see Round - Square - Triangular. taken by Doreen at DeVos Place, Home and Garden Show.

Monica was first to respond, so here is her member voice for Round - Square - Triangular. (with added guide lines)

FSI: February 18 - Twisted. Curly. Contorted. Wound Spirally

An Australian Coot made her nest near the engine of a boat.

I was walking in a park in Queensland Australia. I saw these windy things on the tree trunkc. I was intriqued. They don't look like nests, and they don't look like made by humans. Any of you Australians know what it is?

This was in Queensland Australia. This looks like someone had slashed the tree and you can see the veins twisting and turning.

In the Auckland Zoo, there is this man made spider web. You have to contort yourselves to go through it. My son was quite happy turning and trying to get through. I didn't even try. I am too rigid.

February 18 - Twisted. Curly. Contorted. Wound Spirally

My daughter made this softball sized rubber band ball. She started with one rubber band and eventually ended up with this ball, with a little help from my son and I. It was fun making it, first stretching the rubber band before adding it to the ball. It was more fun watching it grow bigger and bigger.

FSO: Thankful, Don and Olwyn Dickson

Member Voice for December 3 - Thankful!

December already? Well, in a few days it will be. The theme for December 3rd is, in general, what are people most thankful for in your town?

This can be a variety of meanings to everyone. This could be a person, an event, a building, what a group of people are doing in the town, gifts to the town, etc. Or personally, what are you most thankful for in your town.

Definitions of Thankful ........

a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive

feeling or expressing gratitude; appreciative.

http://mytownmrlinky.blogspot.com/

Many of you who have been reading my posts, will remember that my son Andrew was born in September and died in November twenty one years ago. We were living in New Zealand away from our immediate family. The person I am most thankful for is Olwyn Dickson. She was there for me 24/7, and since my mum had died twenty months earlier, and she said to me, " I am now your mum."

I am thankful for Don but it is Olwyn I am most thankful for.

Friday Shootout

http://mytownshootout.blogspot.com/
http://mytownmrlinky.blogspot.com/

One day, I had a long walk, and came across this letter box. I did a double take before I took the photo. Then I was intriqued by the entrance or rather the lack of it.  It was an unruly bush. I couldn't see anything beyond the bush and the trees. It looked like an overgrown deserted bush and abandoned house.
I suppose you don't have to be a rocket scientist to guess why the neighbours don't venture into the compound to tell the owner to keep his garden neat and tidy like the rest of them.

Sorry, I am not into spooky things. I grew up in Borneo, where voodoo things are real, and people cast hex. I do not like looking at spooky things or watching spooky movies.

Here is what I grew up with, the road to our airport cut through two cemeteries. We were not to call our siblings their names when we drove through the cemeteries. Otherwise the ghosts would hear the names. That night, the ghosts would come and call for the person, aka call them to go with them aka they will die. You bet we took this very very seriously and kept very very quiet until we have driven past the cemeteries. That was really spooky.

Friday shootout: Hot or cold

Men in Uniform aka boys in blue

MJ is still hot, on his birthday, students made posters.

Hot bridesmaids in black tube dresses. I hope none of them will be lamenting," always the bridesmaid, never the bride."

Hot bride and her bridemaids.

Hot or cool car.

Mobile pizza oven, can you get any hotter than this?

I will be real hot in this cool quad bike.

Lovely hot ladies from Borneo, and one real hot dude.

These are real hot hunks. Look at their Hot "pants". I suspect like people asking the Scots man if there is anything under the kilt, people ask the Dayak man the same question.

After an hour's tramp in Hot tropical Borneo jungle, Sam was really hot.

The theme for September 24 is Hot or Cold.

There are many ways to show hot or cold. The weather, by colors, by a person's temperament. Use the senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch.

"hot stove"; "hot water"; "a hot August day"; "a hot stuffy room"; "she's hot and tired"; "a hot forehead"
intensity, passionate, blistering, fast, spicy, energy, emotion, enthusiasm, raging.
"a cold climate"; "a cold room"; "cold fingers"; "a cold beer"
sensations, lack of feeling, originality, lacking the warmth of life, chilled, having no appeal, neglected.

Have fun with this theme and think out of the box. by Doreen.

I am quite sick of my cold weather, you may like to go over to my photo site to see the amazing white stuff. Instead, I am posting hot hot hot stuff. These photos don't need long commentaries. I try to think outside the box.

Fridayshoot out: What am I?

http://mytownshootout.blogspot.com/

http://mytownmrlinky.blogspot.com/
"The theme for August 20th is "What Am I?"
One, two or three mysterious photos of something in your town. Something that will not be readily recognized. We shall all have fun guessing what it may be. And I am suggesting that you schedule on your blog the whole picture of the "What Am I?" on Sunday. (so we all can check back and see if we guessed right!) I know this theme is different than what we have ever done. Hoping it will be something new and fresh and get us out there shooting and thinking.

Happy Shooting!!
