Sorry all, I had not been able to access my internet, so I am combining these memes.

I have often seen this family of human powered vehicles. Mum or dad rides the adult bicycle which has a chariot attached to it. Rain or shine I see them. An older child rides his child size bicycle. This exemplifies what we can do for the environment and teaches the children too to love the world. Inside the chariot are two little ones, all bundled up during the wintery rainy days.

I tried often to photograph this family but was in vain when I was driving along the road. yesterday, I eyed them going into the community library and gave me this perfect opportunity.

Save our world/ mellowyellow Monday :no mining

A piece of beautiful New Zealand.

Thousands protested against the Government s mining plans

At the end of April, I posted that thousand s march to protest the Government's intention to open up conservation land for mining. Today, the Government has backed down and scrapped these plans. Ka pai and good job to people power.

The Government had proposed opening up 7000 hectares of conservation land in the Coromandel, Great Barrier Island and Paparoa National Park to prospecting for valuable minerals.

That land is protected from mining under schedule four of the Crown Minerals Act, and more than 30,000 submissions were made on a public consultation document - nearly all of them opposed to changing its status.

About 50,000 people signed a Green Party petition against it, while an estimated 40,000 marched in protest in Auckland.

The land is protected against mining under schedule four of the Crown Minerals Act, and the proposals provoked furious opposition from the public and conservation lobby groups.

i hope this is true, WAY TO GO NEW ZEALAND ! we spoke and the government actually listened. Remember this for future generations... we can make a difference.

Macro Monday: Mellow yellow: Allamanda flower

http://sundaystills.wordpress.com/

When I finished high school in Borneo, I had a gap year and became a teacher before I went to university in Canada. The kids adored me as I was just a kid myself at 19, not much older than some of the students who have come from Chinese schools.

That school, Kai Chung school in Binatang aka now as Bintang, divided the students into houses named after flowers. I was in charge of the Allamanda team. This yellow trumpet like flower is very potent, the sap is poisonous.

This flower from a shrub I found on the Gold Coast of Australia is slightly different to the Borneo ones. They have those extra petals in the middle.
Common Name: Stansill's Double, Flore Pleno Allamanda
Botanical Name: Allamanda cathartica 'Stansill's Double'

The Borneo ones are look like a trumpet and have a hole in the middle.

This Monday, I am combining this post for the meme, Mellow Yellow which I normally post on my other site. http://ann-mythoughtsandphotos.blogspot.com/2010/01/mellow-yellow-fire-evacuation-sign.html
