my world Tuesday: Chimneys
http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/
Ten days ago, a 7.1 Richter scale earth quake hit New Zealand in the city of Christchurch.
Many household chimneys fell. Some bricks almost fell on people's heads.
Most of these chimneys in New Zealand especially in Auckland are not used. An expert suggested that they should be torn down because they are lethal when an earthquake occurs.

You are right Ann. Unless a chimney serves a purpose it is a good idea to remove it for safety reasons as you say. - Dave
Yes, you are right: Chimneys nowadays can be a lot smaller. I have a new central heater which is a lot more economical and only needs a very small kind of chimney.
Thanks for your visit and comment, Ann! I hope New Zealand will be spared new earthquakes!
Oh!Oh! Looks like the end for all the chimneys in NZ.
It is a good suggestion to take them down, but the houses would look not quite as pretty. I imagine it would not be too hard, just take the brick off down to roof level.
Hello Ann,
I just read your message on my old blog, thanks for your reply.
I changed from Blogger to wordpress while many people had problems to open my Blogger blog.
I still use picasa for the photos for my wordpress blog, I used now about 400mb, still for free, but when neccesary I will update to the higher amount of data.
RE: but where are the trees?
sorry no trees in this post!
Regards,
Bram
I can understand why some people feel unused chimneys should come down, but they do add to the beauty of many houses. Our chimney gets a lot of use, so hopefully it can remain.
I am always fascinated with chimneys...only because we dont have them here.
