We love to go to One Tree Hill park especially during lambing time, and watch the little lambs. Once there were feral dogs who attacked the sheep and killed the lambs. Some of these feral dogs come from construction sites. Foreign workers missing their family feed the dogs and the construction sites keep a blind eye. beside, being feral, these dogs make a good watch dog. Another source, I heard this is from the "Let alive" concept, once the dog owner find it too expensive to own the dogs, pay for vets fees and sterilisation charges, computer chips ID, find it too expensive to pay for putting the dog down, drive to remote places and release the dog. Hi everyone, You may have heard about or know some of the campus cats are killed recently by feral dogs that roam on NTU campus. The Office of Development and Facilities Management (ODFM) has engaged the services of a professional dog catcher to study the dogs' trails and patterns in order to have a plan on ambushing and trapping these feral dogs. The Cat Management Network (CMN), the Student Affairs Office and Housing Services Office are working together with ODFM on trapping these feral dogs. If you see a feral dog on campus, please help by reporting the sighting to the Fault Reporting Centre on 6790 4777. The information that you provide will be provided to the professional dog catcher. When I was growing up in Borneo, we had animals and feathered friends. They were not out pets as such, but working animals. In Auckland you can keep about 6 hens as pets, provided the coop is away from public places. You can't keep chicken in confined places. Last Christmas, which is summer here, we were infested with flies and the stench blew all round the neighbourhood. Visitors refused to sat long. I wrote to the council, and later, I saw them move the coop away from the fence. One day, I saw a "space astronaut at their footpath." Not long after, This news came on TV. Although some level of contamination was expected, the high levels came as a surprise. The lab now believes backyard chickens are making hundreds of people sick each year - possibly even thousands. "It's become a more popular activity and I think we fail to realise that it's a bit different to your cat or your dog in that they do have what is a quite serious illness potentially transmitted via their faecal material," Gilpin said. People are being reminded to wash their hands after collecting eggs and coming into contact with chickens.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Our friend from UK, Magician Bernard Bell performed in many schools in Singapore. Xing Nam school gave him this bell in appreciation for his free show. Bernard gave it to us, he said, when you see this bell, it will remind you of the real bell.

Bernard Bell was originally from England, then travelled the world to give pleasure with his magic shows for free and spreading God's good news.

We invited him to stay with us when he came to Singapore. We were impressed with his humble lifestyle. Our hospitality was nothing compared to the good work he was doing.

I made a lot of new friends who came to watch his show in my house. There was a G. whose son had watch Bernard in his school. He came home to tell G. that she had to see Bernard's show in my house because he was so good, and he wanted G. to video his act. G. became my friend.

Christmas is a relatively new adopted tradition in my family. Dad introduced it to us after he returned from England, Christmas was a basically a religious event, plus the trimmings of an supper after church. As we adapt to a new life when Mum and dad went to live in Australia, the trimmings become more lavish.


It was twenty seven years ago when I had Christmas with my parents and brothers and their families in Australia. This year, I made an impromptu trip to Australia and celebrated Christmas with them at Joseph's house.

What is Christmas like Down under without the snow?

Joseph roasted/smoked his turkeys in an American Weber BBQ, and Charles did his yummy ham. We had a great time despite the hot Australian summer. There were prawn platter, chicken, salad, salami, beef jerky, fruit platter and the fiercely claimed by Australia and New Zealand Pavlova. And plenty of champagne and vodka to wash down the food.

I took my big girl who had spent the last 2 years in harbin , North China to have dumplings. To my disappointment, they only had the northern Chinese Dumplings. I had wanted to treat her with the South China, Cantonese type. I went to another place two days later. I forgot to take any photos, and I don't want to dig up my archives. My World : Gas Bottle

I was thinking about the Gas delivery men in Malaysia and Singapore. Our Houses in Borneo were on stilts, and the poor man had to carry it up to the kitchen. In Singapore, I once lived up on the 4th floor, and the gas man had to carry them up. Luckily for them, I don't use gas, and sometimes they come to the wrong apartment. They thanked me for not using gas. In Auckland, some places have piped in gas, tanks like this are basically for BBQs. I don't because my husband is afraid of gas explosions. When I was growing up, I remember the aunties and mum always complaining to the poor gas man, "It is free from the ground, and you charge us so much." The cheeky man would retort and says, aunties, why you ladies don't get some for yourselves. The gas tanks over there are bigger than the 9 kilos on sale here. I got into trouble taking this photo. While I was taking photos, the young attendant came out and asked what I was doing. I couldn't say that I am taking photos to blog or facebook. He wasn't very fierce and he didn't ask me to delete my photos. He said, " It is illegal to take photos in the gas station. I was a little embarrassed and thought of Al Qaeda. Then I remember the time when my girl friends and I were having lunch at Merchant or was it Trader's hotel in the height of Al Qaeda in Singapore. Save the world/ photohunt: Macro Tiny dotterel

Sorry, Gattina, this is not exactly Macro, but I really wanted to show you this bird. The endangered New Zealand dotterel/tūturiwhatu is found only in this country. It is very small and runs very fast. Together with it's colouring, it was very hard to photograph. It was once widespread and common but there are only about 1700 birds left. This serious decline in numbers is due to a combination of habitat loss, predation by introduced mammals and disturbance during breeding. Christine Maslowski gave us a tour of the area she helps to take care of. She sets traps to catch rats and stoats.
