My husband was on a work trip to Australia and was visiting my four siblings when the terrible storm struck Brisbane, Redcliffe and the GoldCoast.
Brisbane has been declared a natural disaster area, as soldiers and prisoners help repair damage caused by one of the biggest storms to hit the city in two decades.
The water engineer was teased that he brought the storm. Last year, when eldest sister Rose came to Auckland, she had asked him to design a way to bring all the excess water from New Zealand to drought stricken Australia. About 30,000 properties across Brisbane, Redcliffe and the Gold Coast were without power on Monday afternoon after Sunday's storm brought hail and wind gusts of up to 130km/h, unroofed homes and toppled power lines and trees.
My sisters and their children had to wear their winter woollens. He took only summer clothes because he thought it was very hot in Australia. I hope he is not freezing.
