Bali is an island full of rustic charm. Smack in the middle of the most populous Muslim country, Indonesia, is a Hindu island.
Famed for Tourism until the Bali Bombing in 2002 by militant Islamists in the tourist area of Kuta killed 202 people, mostly foreigners. This attack, and another in 2005, severely affected tourism, bringing much economic hardship to the island.
It's one of favourite haunts of Australians and New Zealanders.
When I was there, the security was tight, the vehicles entering the hotel had to be checked.
What a price to pay, for religious fanatism.
