Ferns: Boston

This is called Boston Fern. They used to grow wild in my Grand Father's rubber garden.

They line one side of my drive way.

My Grand Dad used to eat them, after boiling it and soaking it for a few days, then stir fry it. I remember it wasn't appetising. My sister Elizabeth married to Kallang who is a Kelabit eat them raw in a dip of belachan and chilli sauce. This way, the frond remains crunchy and it quite delicous.

To eat the young frond which is covered with white fuzzy hair, you have to rub the hair off first.

The water engineer is quite particular in his food, so I have not attempted in harvesting my whole fern.
