How many steps did you take today?

Whenever I go climbing with the water engineer, my poor knees hurt. He tells me to bend low, so I won't slip and fall when we come to a steep slope. Other people go up the mountain by cars or tourist bus. We have to climb. LOL .Mount Eden, known also as Mangawhau, is the highest of Auckland Citys volcanoes at 196 metres high.

When I was in Primary school, I used to sing this song. I sing it wondering why we go up when we have to come down again. The answer is the view is glorious, and at the end of the day, you feel very good having burnt some calories.

The Grand old Duke of York poem

The Grand old Duke of York he had ten thousand men
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up
And when they were down, they were down
And when they were only halfway up
They were neither up nor down.

***These pix shows areas with basalt rock steps, most other times, we just climb the grassy slopes.***

I read that if you keep your back straight and keep your feet in front of your knees it is better.

Also, working the steps 2 at a time targets the butt and thighs.

Apparently you are living amongst many volcanoes in Auckland; the most recent one being Rangitoto which erupted and appeared one day suddenly from out of the sea!
