Bus Stoppage

The wheels on the bus go round and round
Round and round, round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
All through the town.

The children on the bus go "Chatter, Chatter, Chatter,
Chatter, Chatter, Chatter,Chatter, Chatter, Chatter,"
The children on the bus go "Chatter, Chatter, Chatter,"
All through the town.

This is a favourite song with the young children especially when they are on a bus trip. It goes longer than this, with the wipers going swish, doors banging, etc. I am sure you all enjoyed this song as a child, parent, grand parent and teachers.

Today, the wheels on the bus in Auckland won't go round and round. Daughter G reminds the water engineer that she needed a ride to university. A lockout of perhaps five days is threatened by NZ Bus in response to notice of industrial action from unions representing drivers and cleaners is expected to put 700 buses off the road and disrupt travel plans of up to 80,000 Aucklanders.

We are still on school holidays so school children are not affected. But school kids won't be chatter, chatter on a holiday outing.

We don't use the bus services a lot, except for G. Auckland is very spaced out and it is not very convenient taking the bus. Also the bus fares are very expensive.

As a worker, I support the drivers as they pay is really low.

We've had bus strikes here that have paralyzed the city.

Hope the lockout ends soon and calmer heads prevail!
