Freeganism

 r

One day, Sam who is 12, was engrossed in a book which was obvious that it wasn't his. It was G's and she had introduced him to freeganism.

What's a freegan?

Freeganism is an anti-consumerist lifestyle where people live on strategies based on "limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources" and includes salvaging discarded, unspoiled food from supermarket dumpsters. Going through dumpsters, bins and skips can give you loads of surprises.

There was a TV program teaching people how to be a freegan and retrieving food from dumpsters. These two dumpsters in my photographs are obviously used by restaurant owners to dump their unwanted food as they are behind restaurants. Chances are there  will be lots of left over food. It is a matter of hiding nearby and wait for the food to be thrown out. You won't want to leave the food there too long.

In some of the Chinese groceries, they have signs at veg like lettuces saying," Not allowed to take the discarded leaves." These outer leaves are still edible, and if you wait for them to be thrown out, you are bound to have good pickings.

I am not converted. I will rather work hard in digging my garden and grow my own vegs. Besides, the food may be contaminated.
